A nonhealing fracture, also known as nonunions, occurs when some broken bones do not heal even when they get the best surgical or non-surgical treatment. This happens when the fracture moves too much or there is poor supply of blood. People who smoke are at a high risk of nonhealing fracture.
Causes: Degree of displacement, infection, lack of blood flow to the bone, separation of fractured ends of the bone
Symptoms: Tenderness, swelling and pain
