Hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid is a condition in which the thyroid glands overproduce the hormone called thyroxine. It can be serious if you ignore it, but once on a treatment most patients respond well.
Causes: Graves’ disease, Plummer’s disease, excess intake of iodine, tumour in ovaries and thyroiditis
Symptoms: Weight loss, abnormal heart beat, tremor, increased sweating, fatigue, changes in menstrual problems, increased sensitivity to heat and increased appetite
