Medical professionals say a 2021 report supported by Health Canada could have a major impact on how the medical system can better understand chronic pain and the best ways to diagnose it — but with its release during the height of COVID-19 pandemic, the report flew under the radar, and some doctors and advocates are hoping that can chanage.

CBC News spoke with five paramedics who say they’ve been sent out to respond to 911 calls unnecessarily — either because the call had already been handled by another team and reappeared in the system, or because several ambulances were dispatched to the same call. In-flight medical emergencies happen roughly once every 212 flights, according to recent research.
