#IDMsuccess Story

For Chrissie, a post-surgery decision makes all the difference.

“I’m not easily offended, nor am I stupid. It was a BIG wake-up call.”

Coach’s Notes: How Do I Begin Fasting?

It’s easier than you think, says IDM’s John Clary

For many of us, the thought of fasting starts as a foreign idea. Skip a meal? That’s not something I ever planned on before reading The Obesity Code. I was surprised to find out that fasting was even a “thing,” and when I learned that it could help me reverse my Type 2 Diabetes (and lose weight) I was ready to give it a try.

What works for a lot of people is to ease into fasting, and one of the most popular ways is to just skip breakfast, making lunch your break-fast or your first meal of the day. Depending on when you ate dinner, this gives you a 16- to 18-hour fast, much of it while you were sleeping. This is achievable and sustainable for many people.

Starting the day with black coffee or tea is a great way to begin a short fast and may be able to hold you until lunch. If you need something in your coffee, a tablespoon of heavy cream or coconut oil is acceptable but sweeteners are not recommended.

For others, jumping into a longer fast might be doable. If you skipped breakfast and are still not hungry when lunchtime rolls around, don’t eat. If dinner time comes around and you feel well, don’t eat.

If you have hunger, remember that this can be normal. Hunger comes in waves and usually, by ignoring it, it will pass. Having a glass of water can be helpful and staying busy really helps keep your mind off of it. Most people find that fasting gets easier as you become used to it.

No matter which approach you take, be sure to listen to your body and end your fast if you feel unwell. You can always fast again another day.

A great new offering from IDM and Pique Tea

Plus: Join Dr. Fung on the next 14-Day Fasting Challenge!

Tea has plenty of benefits when it comes to fasting. For example, among its many positive effects, tea:

              • Increase satiety
              • Supports restful sleep
              • Promotes calm
              • Manages nighttime cravings
              • Keeps your fasting on track – comfortably

Based on those and tea’s other many benefits, IDM has long been a partner with Pique Tea. So, we’re excited to announce a new tea that we’ve co-developed: new Cinnamon Herbal Fasting Tea! It’s a caffeine-free herbal tea that we specifically formulated for fasting.

The unique hand-picked blend includes superplants from both Eastern and Western herbalism:

      • Burdock root: loaded with polyphenols like quercetin, luteolin and phenolic acid
      • Cinnamon: shown to have great effects when combined with fasting
      • Whole Italian Bergamot: both calming and relaxing
      • Spearmint: used for appetite-satisfying properties and a refreshing twist

Each of these ingredients have legendary benefits on their own, but when combined, they’ll set you up for a relaxing evening. They’re the ideal and most sustainable solution for the cravings, upset stomach, irritability and insomnia that sometimes result from fasting!

Starting September 23, if you purchase Cinnamon Herbal Fasting Tea you can gain exclusive access to the next 14-Day Fasting Challenge Dr. Fung is co-hosting with Pique Tea.
